Helios HSK Wiesbaden founds new clinic for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery
Dr. med. Ruth Schäfer (41) has assumed the position of Clinic Director of the newly established Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Helios HSK Wiesbaden.
"With the surgical discipline, the medical portfolio of Helios HSK Wiesbaden is supplemented by an important component" explains Prof. Dr. med. Ralf Kiesslich, Medical Managing Director of the Helios HSK. "In addition to reconstructive microsurgery for breast reconstruction and defect coverage after tumor operations, Dr. med. Schäfer will also offer body-shaping procedures after massive weight reduction, the treatment of lipedema, and complementary functional reconstructions including motor replacement plastics on the body and face, as well as the broad spectrum of aesthetic surgery. We wish her a good start and much success in establishing her clinic."
"Ruth Schäfer brings extensive surgical experience from her previous professional positions, most recently as Managing Senior Physician at the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Unfallklinik in Tübingen, but also broad organizational knowledge in the establishment of medical cooperations and structures, which will greatly benefit her in establishing our new Clinic for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery," said Sven Axt, Commercial Director of Helios HSK.
A specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery with an additional qualification in hand surgery, she has a high level of professional expertise in the field of modern plastic surgery and reconstructive microchiurgery. She is a proven expert in breast surgery and functional reconstructive as well as aesthetic facial surgery.
After successfully completing her medical studies in Frankfurt am Main, San Diego and Zurich, the native of Mainz completed her further medical training at the University Hospital in Zurich, the Rosengasse Clinic in Ulm and the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Unfallklinik in Tübingen. There, she was most recently the managing senior physician of the Clinic for Hand, Plastic, Reconstructive and Burn Surgery. She secured the FESSH accreditation of BG Klinik Tübingen as a European Hand Trauma and Replantation Center by obtaining the Fellowship of the European Board of Hand Surgery, FEBHS. In the Burn Intensive Care Unit, she was responsible for surgical patient care and led, among other things, quality assurance breast cancer in cooperation with the Breast Center. Here she conducted research on the topic of modern monitoring and influencing microcirculation on skin and flap plastics. Under her leadership, an interdisciplinary facial outpatient clinic was established together with the neurosurgery department, which attracts patients from all over the region. Numerous publications and lectures at renowned congresses illustrate her scientific ambition. In academic teaching at the University of Tübingen, Dr. Schäfer has organized numerous events and passed on her knowledge to young medical professionals.
"The opportunity to build up a renowned clinic with a broad spectrum of care and an interesting focus in my home country and to lead it into the future was naturally very tempting," says the new chief physician, explaining her motivation for the move from Tübingen to Wiesbaden. In addition to specialist excellence, Dr. Schäfer attaches particular importance to teamwork - both within her specialist department and across professional groups and disciplines in the Helios HSK and in close coordination with colleagues in private practice in the region. The promotion of education and training as well as the establishment of a research group are very close to her heart.
