Helios Bad Saarow: State-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment sets new standards in cancer treatment
The Clinic for Radiation Oncology and Radiation Medicine at the Helios Hospital Bad Saarow is equipped with the latest radiation therapy technology. After the first state-of-the-art therapy unit was installed last year, the second sophisticated radiotherapy system also went into operation at the beginning of June. The new technology enables even more precise and effective cancer treatment. In addition, radiation therapies can be performed even more gently and effectively for patients.
The Helios Hospital Bad Saarow has specialized in the treatment and therapy of oncological diseases for decades and has many years of experience and expertise in the care of patients with cancer.
Now, the hospital has once again invested 4.9 million euros in state-of-the-art medical technology to ensure first-class oncological care in radiotherapy. The TrueBeam systems are a further development of the earlier linear accelerators and offer improved functionalities and accuracy. They are designed to offer a wide range of radiotherapy treatments.
Advantages of the new radiotherapy technology
"With our new Truebeam systems, we are able to create an exact three-dimensional plan for irradiation and adhere to it with the highest possible accuracy during therapy."
- The two new radiotherapy units are equipped with a computed tomography unit to generate CT cross-sectional images during irradiation, allowing real-time review of the therapy.
- In addition, both systems are equipped with a special treatment table, a 6-D table, which can be adjusted in six degrees of freedom without having to reposition the patient. This allows an optimal alignment to be made, enabling a perfect millimeter-precise match with the therapy planning.
- Another advantage of the new radiation therapy systems is that they take into account the respiratory-dependent movement of the chest. Breathing movements are automatically detected so that radiation is administered only during specific breathing phases. In addition to the highest possible radiation accuracy, this also allows maximum protection of the heart and lungs. The systems offer a high treatment rate, which reduces treatment times for patients. This is particularly important to minimize movement during irradiation and ensure accurate delivery of the radiation dose.
- With the additional installation of the Vision RT surface-guided radiotherapy system, the patient position can be precisely tracked before and during treatment, increasing the safety of the treatment. The surface to be irradiated is secured in sub-milimetric accuracy in real time without contact. This means that radiation is delivered only when the patient is correctly positioned. This system also benefits patient comfort by eliminating the need for tattooing or other permanent markings.
Oncological focus
At the certified Oncology Center of the Bad Saarow Clinic, experts from a wide range of disciplines work closely together to develop an individually tailored treatment strategy for each patient.
The hospital offers a comprehensive range of services in the diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of oncological diseases. Surgical procedures, drug therapies as well as innovative radiation therapy methods such as the TrueBeam system are used to effectively combat the tumor.
In addition, the hospital attaches great importance to holistic patient care. In addition to medical treatment, psychosocial support, nutritional counseling, pain therapy and rehabilitation are also offered to accompany patients throughout the treatment process and improve their quality of life.
To keep abreast of the latest medical developments, the hospital is closely involved in oncology research and clinical trials. This enables physicians to offer their patients access to innovative therapeutic approaches and treatment options.
By combining experience, expertise, state-of-the-art technology and a holistic approach, the hospital does everything it can to provide patients with the best possible care and give them hope and a cure in their fight against cancer.
