Helios Schwelm: Recertification of the Department of Cardiology

The Chest Pain Unit is a specialized emergency department for patients presenting with unexplained chest pain. Its primary goal is to rapidly and reliably rule out myocardial infarction or other life-threatening conditions, or to initiate the necessary treatment immediately. The Department of Cardiology at Helios Hospital Schwelm has once again been awarded the prestigious quality seal of the German Cardiac Society.

The recertification as a Chest Pain Unit (CPU) confirms that patients presenting with acute chest pain receive medical care at the highest standard and in full accordance with current clinical guidelines. “The recertification is a testament to our high quality standards. Especially in cases of unexplained chest pain, which may indicate serious heart disease, our Chest Pain Unit provides patients with the reassurance of standardized diagnostic and treatment pathways,” said Dr. Ulrich Müschenborn, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine I.

The renewed certification of the Department of Internal Medicine I further demonstrates that Helios Hospital Schwelm meets all stringent quality requirements and has specialized teams with the expertise and precision to manage cardiac emergencies, such as an impending myocardial infarction.

State-of-the-art technology for heart health

At the heart of the certified department is the cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab). Here, specialists rely on advanced imaging technologies and minimally invasive procedures. Whether performing coronary artery stenting or conducting comprehensive assessments of the coronary arteries, the department's cutting-edge equipment enables diagnosis and treatment in line with the latest scientific and clinical standards.

The rigorous certification process of the German Cardiac Society requires close cooperation between multiple medical specialties. At Helios Hospital Schwelm, the teams from the Department of Internal Medicine I (Cardiology) and the Department of Internal Medicine III (Intensive Care Medicine) work hand in hand to ensure seamless patient monitoring and treatment.

Markus Wiemer, Senior Consultant and Head of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, also expressed his pride:

“I am extremely proud of the entire team’s achievement. This recognition is the result of outstanding teamwork, with the well-being of our patients always remaining our highest priority.”
