Thoracic Surgery at the Helios HSK Wiesbaden
On September 9, 2024, PD Dr. med. Alessandro Marra became Director of the Clinic for Thoracic Surgery at the Helios HSK Wiesbaden. PD Dr. Marra is moving from the Rems-Murr-Klinikum in Winnenden.
Born in South Tyrol, he studied medicine at the Catholic University in Rome. He began his professional career at the Ruhrlandklinik in Essen, one of Germany's most traditional pulmonary hospitals. In the years that followed, he shaped thoracic surgery at the St. Raphael Ostercappeln Hospital as a senior consultant, where he played a key role in developing the clinic into one of the largest centers for thoracic surgery in northern Germany.
"We are very proud and delighted that Dr. Alessandro Marra, an internationally renowned specialist, is taking over as Head of Thoracic Surgery at Helios HSK. His expertise and innovative spirit are an excellent fit with our orientation as a maximum care provider with specialized medical centers that offer our patients the highest medical quality based on close interdisciplinary cooperation," says Sven Axt, Managing Director of Helios Kliniken Wiesbaden-Taunus.
Privatdozent Dr. Marra is known as a pioneer in the use of new methods and technologies and is a proven expert in the use of the daVinci surgical system, the top model of which has been successfully used for minimally invasive surgical procedures at Helios HSK for many years. As Chief Physician for Thoracic Surgery, he successfully introduced the robot-assisted surgical system at the Bremen-Ost Clinic, and later also at the Rems-Murr Clinic in Winnenden, where he headed the Lung Center as Chief Physician for Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Marra is particularly impressed by the innovative concept of short distances in the new Helios HSK building: thoracic surgery, pneumology and oncology are right next to each other, which significantly promotes interdisciplinary cooperation between the various departments. This close proximity means that consultations can be carried out even more quickly and efficiently, which simplifies the efficient treatment of lung cancer patients in particular.
Dr. Marra has already met his new colleagues in initial discussions and is looking forward to working with them. "I would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in me by appointing me Director of the Clinic for Thoracic Surgery. At the Helios HSK, I have found an excellent team that stands for collegial cooperation and is known for the highest quality of treatment. Together, we will continue to drive forward the close interdisciplinary integration and, in particular, exploit the great opportunities offered by the new clinic building for the benefit of our patients."
In addition to the professional prospects, Dr. Marra, an enthusiastic opera lover, and his wife are looking forward to the rich cultural offerings of the city of Wiesbaden and the high quality of life in the "Nice of the North".
