Helios Hospital Emil von Behring: German Cancer Society Confirms High Quality of Treatment
The Visceral Oncology Center of the Clinic for General, Visceral and Minimally Invasive Surgery headed by Prof. Dr. med. Marc H. Jansen consists of a certified colorectal cancer center and a certified pancreatic cancer center. There are only eight of these specialized facilities in Berlin. With the renewed successful systematic review by the German Cancer Society (DKG), the clinic demonstrates - in the truest sense - excellent treatment quality.
The Clinic for General, Visceral and Oncological Surgery at Helios Hospital Emil von Behring has had a high level of expertise in the complex treatment of intestinal and pancreatic cancer for many years. This expertise has now been confirmed by the DKG for the third time in a row: After the initial certification in 2020 and the first re-certification in 2022, the department can now once again enjoy the quality seal as a Visceral Oncology Center, which is now valid until the end of 2026. The DKG certificate represents the best neutral quality mark for good oncological care. Patients with colorectal or pancreatic cancer can thus be sure of receiving optimal treatment at Helios Hospital Emil von Behring.
"Our patients receive optimal oncological care from a single source here on site. For this, the comprehensive exchange with colleagues from other departments is essential,"
explains head physician Prof. Dr. med. Marc H. Jansen.
This exchange takes place, among other things, in the weekly interdisciplinary tumor conference. In this conference, specialists from general surgery, gastroenterology, oncology, radiology and radiotherapy jointly develop the best treatment concept for each patient, which is also continuously reviewed and adjusted as necessary.
The fact that the quality of treatment is convincing is also reflected in the growing number of patients:
"Since the first quality control in 2020, 28 percent more patients with pancreatic cancer and 16 percent more patients with colorectal cancer have placed their trust in us. This overall development confirms me and the entire team in our actions,"
said Prof. Marc H. Jansen.
"To all those who were and are involved in this, I express my heartfelt thanks."
Sustained high quality also requires optimal coordination of the two cancer centers with regard to interdisciplinary collaboration as well as quality control and documentation: Senior physician Ines Stenzel from the Clinic for General, Visceral and Minimally Invasive Surgery is responsible for this as center coordinator for colorectal cancer and Dr. med. Teresa Lang as center coordinator for pancreatic cancer.
The Visceral Oncology Center in Berlin-Zehlendorf is also important beyond the region: Intestinal and pancreatic cancer patients from Burg, Oschersleben and Köthen are also regularly treated at Helios Hospital Emil von Behring.
