Expansion of the Gynecology Department at Helios Berlin-Buch
Following the completion of the new extension at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch in April 2026, expectant mothers will benefit from even more modern infrastructure and greater comfort in the newly added facilities. The light-filled extension will accommodate an expanded delivery area with new rooms for women in the early stages of labor. These rooms represent a significant improvement for pregnant patients and also provide space for their partners. This will allow women to be admitted during the early stages of labor and enable couples to prepare for the birth together.
In the future, the hospital will have a total of six delivery rooms, with two additional rooms currently under construction. Modern equipment and facilities — including birthing stools, support ropes and cloths, exercise balls, relaxation bathtubs, multifunctional birthing beds, and birthing pools — will provide a high level of comfort.
The obstetrics team manages an average of around 2,700 births each year. As a Level 1 perinatal center, the highest level of perinatal care, the Department of Obstetrics at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch offers comprehensive expertise and advanced medical care. All key specialist departments — including prenatal medicine, obstetrics with its own operating room, neonatology with an intensive care unit, pediatrics, and pediatric surgery — are located in close proximity and directly connected. This close integration enables rapid decision-making, short transfer distances, and particularly safe care for both mother and child, even in complex situations such as high-risk pregnancies, multiple births, and premature deliveries.
With this expansion, the hospital is responding to the demand for maternity services. At Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch, expectant parents are supported by an experienced team from the very beginning, with trusted, safe, and around-the-clock care. With its wide range of services and expanded facilities, the obstetrics team provides the best possible support along with an enhanced level of comfort.
Another important change is also taking place within the department: as of October 1, 2026, Dr. med. Sebastian Hentsch will take over as Chief Physician of both Gynecology and Obstetrics at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch. He will succeed the interim heads Dr. med. Christine Mau (Gynecology) and Dr. med. Annette Isbruch (Obstetrics). An experienced specialist in gynecology and obstetrics as well as gynecologic oncology, Dr. Hentsch also specializes in endometriosis and urogynecology. Most recently, he worked as a senior physician at the University Women’s Hospital in Düsseldorf. In Berlin-Buch, he will lead two large, modern departments with highly skilled and experienced teams providing patients and expectant mothers with medical care at the highest level. Dr. Hentsch comments on his appointment:
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to provide our patients with professional care in an atmosphere of trust. Both gynecology and obstetrics are important points of contact for women when it comes to sensitive and emotional issues such as gynecological health, family planning, and childbirth. I am fully aware of the responsibility that my teams and I carry in this regard, and I am taking on my new role with great motivation.”
Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch and the Gynecology and Obstetrics team look forward to working with Dr. med. Sebastian Hentsch. With these two developments, the hospital is further expanding the range of medical services available to patients and expectant mothers.
